Volunteering with AMSA:

ALS Association- Walk to Defeat ALS
What: AMSA will be walking 3 miles for ALS! If you're feeling ambitious, find sponsors and ask for donations. 100% of it goes to the ALS Association.
When: Sunday, October 18 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. We will be leaving Peterson Loop a 7:00am. Please don't be late. We need to check in at 7:30am. How: Register under the team name "AMSA-UCSD' by clicking "join team" at this website.

Red Cross Blood Drive
What: AMSA is sponsoring a blood drive for Red Cross. We will be asking people to help out with setting up and flyering and helping out at the event itself.
When: Monday, November 2 from 10:00am to 3:30pm on Library Walk.

Hospital Volunteering

1. Hillcrest Center or Moores Cancer Center
“Our volunteer program supports UCSD Medical Center personnel in their activities of patient care, education and research. The role of volunteers is not to replace, but to supplement the regular professional staff, freeing them to provide the highest quality of patient care.”

Where: Main Auditorium, UCSD Medical Center, Hillcrest
What: If you would like to volunteer, email volsvcs@ucsd.edu and ask to reserve a spot for the November Orientation (don't forget to leave your full name). Then, go to http://www.health.ucsd.edu/volunteer and READ the info about volunteering, the different volunteering positions and the orientation page. Then print the applications and fill them out to bring with you on the day of orientation.

2. Rady Children's Hospital
“The mission of the Volunteer Services Department is to enhance and support the services of Rady Children’s Hospital and Health Center through the contributions of trained volunteers in a caring environment. Volunteer Services is dedicated to provide the highest possible quality of service while at the same time respecting the dignity, individual differences and cultural diversity of our patients, families, staff and the communities we serve.”

Duties: Volunteers assist as greeters, escorts, teachers, ambassadors,entertainers, clerical assistant to the staff (and more!)

Application forms are processed in the order in which they are received. Completed application form is reviewed by Volunteer Services staff. Reference letters with individual addresses are included. Upon approval of application and receipt of reference letters, prospective volunteer will receive an invitation to attend an orientation.

3. VA Hospital

Duties: Escort patients, clerical assistance, feed patients, provide assistance in pharmacy, radiology, laboratory research, etc.

4. Scripps Memorial La Jolla, Scripps Green and Scripps Clinic
Duties: Escort, transport and follow-up with patients, Help with the Cancer Center, Emergency Room, as a Nursing Floor Assistant, etc.
